Sophomore Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va.) and senior Tara Jones (Richmond, Va.) each scored 18 points but the 24th ranked (D3Hoops.com) Bridgewater College Eagles were up for the challenge and defeated the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team 82-71 Tuesday night in Bridgewater, Va.

The Eagles improved to 12-2 on the season and 9-1 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while EMU falls to 9-3 overall and 7-3 in the conference.

Junior Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa.) was the central point of the EMU offense in the first half. The junior center had nine points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field including two steals. Bridgewater's Katy Herr-Lovell was even more productive as the senior guard poured in 15 points while recording six steals to give the Eagles a 43-31 lead at the half.

Kratz finished the contest with a season-high 17 points along with six boards.

In the second half, Jones and Riley took over for EMU with Jones tallying 12 of her 18 points in the half while going 2-for-2 from behind the arc. Her 18 points set a new career high for the senior guard.

Riley added another 13 points and seven boards in the half to finish with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the double-double. EMU also getting nine points, seven rebounds, and six steals from current ODAC Player of the Week Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md.).

Herr-Lovell and the Eagles though proved to be too much as she added another 11 points in the half to finish the contest with 26 points, four assists, and nine steals. Shannon Scales recorded another 20 points and five rebounds for BC.

EMU returns to the court on Saturday, January 20, as the Lady Royals host Southern Virginia at 2 p.m. in Yoder Arena.
