Junior
Jolene Kratz (Telford, Pa.) hit a jumper from just inside the paint with less than a minute remaining to give the Eastern Mennonite University women's basketball team the lead and eventual 56-54 win over Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Roanoke College Tuesday night in Yoder Arena.
Kratz, rolling off a screen, was able to take the feed from freshman guard
Ebony Dennis (Baltimore, Md.) and connect with 59 seconds remaining. Roanoke was then unable to get a shot to drop as the Lady Royals defense clamped down on the Maroons and held them scoreless for the last few seconds to preserve the win.
EMU improves to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC while Roanoke drops to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
Leading the offensive for the Lady Royals was sophomore
Carolyn Riley (Warrenton, Va.) and Kratz with 12 points and six rebounds each. Dennis added another 11 points for EMU which entered the half with a 27-25 lead.
Roanoke got strong production from junior forward Erin Hanson who led the team with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the double-double. Erin Jenkins also chipped in 11 points in the loss.
Sophomore
Kathleen Steele (Gainsville, Va.) recorded four points and nine rebounds with freshman guard
Melissa Lewis (Roanoke, Va.) adding another six points and four rebounds.
