Men's Basketball Hangs on for 77-73 Win

Jason Sager (Edinburg, Va.) complimented his double-double from yesterday with another double-double tonight as the senior forward scored a team high 28 points and pulled down 12 boards to lead the Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball team past Southern Virginia 77-73 Saturday night in Yoder Arena.
The Royals finish the Tip-Off Tournament with a perfect 2-0 record. Sager along with junior
Brad Parkes (Winchester, Va.) were named to the All-Tournament team following the final contest. Also named to the All-Tournament team were Southern Virginia's Tanner Johnson, BC's Josh Fox, and Lancaster Bible's Drew Karschner. BC's Dominic Trawick garnered the Tournaments Most Valuable Player.
The Royals controlled the game early as EMU took a 38-28 lead heading into the half. Sager knocked down 12 of his 28 points in the first half while Parkes contributed another 10 points. Sophomore
LeRoger Parrish (Danville, Va.) knocked in nine of his 13 game points in the first period to go along with four rebounds.
Southern Virginia (2-4) did not go quietly as the Knights kept the game close in the second half. SVU was led by junior Tanner Johnson with his 29 points and five rebounds while Dallas Rivera contributed 10 points and six assists.
Junior
Jered Lyons (Takoma Park, Md.) had a team high seven assists on the day with two steals.
Southern Virginia began to make things interesting heading into the game's final minutes as SVU pulled within four of the EMU lead. The Royals were unable to connect with their free throws allowing the Knights another chance with the clock winding down. SVU drove down the court on the Royals but were unable to connect with two desperation three-pointers, sealing the win for EMU.
SVU outscored the Royals 45-41 in the second half.
EMU travels to Shenandoah on Tuesday, November 21 for a 7 p.m. game against the Hornets.
