EMU Takes Down Roanoke 55-46 in Women's Basketball

Eastern Mennonite University finished the game on a 16-6 run to pull away from Roanoke College and record a 55-46 Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on Wednesday evening in Harrisonburg, Va.
The teams battled through nine lead changes and six ties as neither team led by more than five points until the last minute of the contest. With RC (9-8, 6-7 ODAC) clinging to a 40-39 lead with 6:34 remaining, EMU (11-6, 7-5 ODAC) started its run. The Lady Royals reeled off six straight points to go up 45-40 and were able to continue building the lead by holding the Maroons scoreless while missing seven shots from the floor from the 3:09 mark until just 22 seconds remained. By that time, EMU had built an 11-point advantage and the Lady Royals went on to win 55-46.
The Lady Royals had their best performance of the season from the free throw line, going 19-for-21 (90.5%) for the game. EMU shot 38.6% from the floor and made 2-of-10 three-point attempts. Roanoke shot just 25% from the floor, an EMU opponent low for the season, and made 6-of-18 three-point attempts. The Maroons also went 14-for-19 from the charity stripe.
Senior center Amanda Renalds (Bridgewater, Va.) narrowly missed a double-double with 17 points, nine rebounds, and four steals while also going 9-for-10 at the free throw line. Junior guard Tara Jones had 10 poitns and three steals.
Junior guard Cindy McGraw was the lone player in double-figures for the Maroons with 12 points, four boards, three assists, and three steals.
EMU will begin a three-game road swing on Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. contest at Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va.
