EMU Victorious in ODAC Women's Soccer Opener 6-0

Freshman Katie Lamm scored the game's first two goals and Eastern Mennonite University went on to defeat Sweet Briar College 6-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer opener for both teams.

Lamm (Newmanstown, Pa.) got EMU (2-3, 1-0 ODAC) on the board in the fifth minute with an unassisted goal and added another score in the 15th minute unassisted. Valerie Brubaker (Quarryville, Pa.) scored in the 32nd minute with an assist from Bethany Hertzler (Souderton, Pa.).

Leading 3-0 at the half, the Lady Royals continued the onslaught five minutes into the second period when Elizabeth Rutt (Ephrata, Pa.) fed Alana Wenger (New Holland, Pa.). Kelsey Yoder (Canby, Ore.) scored in the 74th minute with an assist from Aubrey Bauman (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). Jessica Walsh (Hampton, Va.) closed the scoring in the 82nd minute with an assist from Yoder.

In all, freshmen accounted for all six goals and three assists in the EMU victory. Eight different players had at least one goal or assist with Bauman being the lone sophomore. Junior Joy Shaiebly (Lancaster, Pa.) earned her first shutout in goal, facing just two shots and recording zero saves. Freshman Kristen Johnson (Federal Way, Wash.) took the loss for SBC (2-3, 0-1) while making 13 saves.

The Lady Royals outshot the Vixens 27-2 and led in corner kicks 6-1. EMU will host Roanoke College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in another ODAC contest.
