Lady Royals Fall to #6 Yellow Jackets 80-67

Reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year Megan Silva had 22 points to lead sixth-ranked Randolph-Macon College to an 80-67 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in an ODAC women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Va.
EMU (15-8, 11-7) led in the game's early minutes by a score of 9-8 with 12:04 remaining in the first period. R-MC (21-1, 18-0) promptly put together a 13-1 swing for a 21-10 lead with 8:27 remaining in the half. The Yellow Jackets went into the break with a 39-26 lead.
Randolph-Macon held a 49-33 advantage with 15:51 remaining in the game before EMU made a push to close the gap. The Lady Royals put together a quick 8-0 burst to cut the lead to 49-41 with 13:23 left. With 6:47 left in the game, EMU trailed 65-56 but R-MC held off any EMU runs for the 80-67 win.
Randolph-Macon entered the game ranked #6 in the nation by D3hoops.com and with the victory improved its winning streak to 14 games. The Yellow Jackets also own the best winning percentage in the country.
Silva, a junior guard, had a stellar all-around performance with 22 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. Sophomore guard Salem Shaffer tied her career-high with 20 points and also had two assists and three blocks. Sophomore guard Kristen Morgan added eight points, six boards, and five assists.
Junior forward Amanda Renalds had her eighth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also had three assists and went 12-for-15 at the free throw line. Junior forward Stephanie Mathews had 15 points, six rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and five steals. Freshman guard Dana Powell had 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the three-point arch. Senior center Regina Sours had 11 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.
Both teams shot well in the game with the Yellow Jackets shooting 46.5% from the floor and hitting 6-of-12 three-point field goals. They also went 8-of-14 at the free throw line for 57.1% shooting. The Lady Royals shot 44.4% from the floor and connected on 5-of-8 three-pointers, their best long-range performance of the season. They also hit 22-of-31 free throws for 71%.
EMU will host its final home game of the season on Wednesday, February 16 at 7 p.m. when the Lady Royals entertain the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College. Prior to the game, EMU will recognize seniors Regina Sours and Shantee Bryant.
