R-MC Cruises to 70-44 Triumph over EMU in Women's Basketball

Randolph-Macon College forced 39 Eastern Mennonite University turnovers in recording a 70-44 victory in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Thursday night in Ashland, Va.
R-MC (6-1, 5-0 ODAC) entered the game ranked eighth nationally in the most recent D3hoops.com poll and recorded its 30th straight win in ODAC play. The Yellow Jackets shot 57% in the opening half to build a 38-19 halftime lead and outscored EMU (4-3, 1-2 ODAC) 32-25 in the second period.
R-MC finished the game with 46.8% shooting from the floor and hit just 1-of-7 three-point field goals, but the story of the game was turnovers. The two teams combined for 62 turnovers including a season-high 39 by EMU. The previous high for the Lady Royals was 27 against Roanoke.
The Royals also set season-lows for field goals made (10) and attempted (38) while shooting 26.3% from the floor for the game. EMU went 3-of-14 from three-point range and scored nearly half its points from the free throw line, where the Lady Royals went 21-for-35.
Senior defending ODAC Player of the Year Megan Silva (Glen Allen, Va.) led all players with 22 points, including 20 in the opening half, on 9-of-15 shooting and added four assists and four steals. It was her third straight game over 20 points and fifth this season. Senior Kristin Thompson (Penllyn, Pa.) added nine points and five rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.
Senior Stephanie Mathews (Woodstock, Va.) had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double in the last five games and also had three steals. Sophomore guard Megan Seward (Winchester, Va.) added nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from the three-point arch.
EMU will continue its stretch of three games in five days on Saturday with a 2 p.m. home game against the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College.
