Amanda Renalds and Stephanie Mathews each recorded double-doubles as Eastern Mennonite University picked up a 65-49 non-conference women's basketball victory over Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.

Shenandoah (1-4) led for much of the early part of the first half. However, with the score tied at 21-21 with 5:10 remaining, EMU (4-1) took a lead it would not relinquish. The Lady Royals led by just two at the break, 26-24, but outscored the Hornets 22-8 in the first 11 minutes of the second half to take a 48-32 lead. SU got no closer than nine the rest of the way as EMU pulled out the 65-49 triumph.

Senior forward Stephanie Mathews (Woodstock, Va.) had her third consecutive double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds along with five assists. Senior center Amanda Renalds (Bridgewater, Va.) had her second double-double with 18 points and 11 boards along with four blocks and three steals. Junior guard Tara Jones (Richmond, Va.) chipped in 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

Freshman guard Valerie Samples (Oakhurst, N.J.) was the lone player in double-figures for the Hornets with 13 points. Sophomore guard Netagia Foreman (Winchester, Va.) collected eight points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

EMU returns to Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. home game against the Generals of Washington and Lee University.
