Lady Royals Shutout Yellow Jackets 2-0 in Soccer

Eastern Mennonite University scored two second half goals in picking up a 2-0 victory over Randolph-Macon College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon in Harrisonburg, Va.
EMU (7-6-2, 5-3-1 ODAC) vaulted past R-MC (9-6, 5-5 ODAC) into fourth place in the ODAC with the victory. Randolph-Macon fell into a tie for fifth with Guilford College (8-5-2, 5-4 ODAC), which beat Sweet Briar College 6-0 on Wednesday.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie at the half with each tallying just two shots in the opening period. EMU freshman Alana Wenger (New Holland, Pa.) struck on an open shot from the right side 6:28 into the second half for the game-winner. Freshman Liz Rutt (Ephrata, Pa.) stroked the second EMU goal with 8:18 remaining to cushion the lead for the Lady Royals.
EMU led in shots 11-8 and corner kicks were tied at 7-7. Junior Joy Shaiebly (Lancaster, Pa.) had three saves in goal to earn the victory and record her fifth shutout of the season. Senior Liz Lombardo (Baltimore, Md.) notched six saves for the Yellow Jackets.
EMU has two home ODAC contests remaining before the conference tournament begins. The Lady Royals host the Wasps of Emory & Henry College on Saturday at 1 p.m. and close the season next Tuesday against the Generals of Washington and Lee University at 4 p.m.
