Royals Defeated by Maroons 80-75

Roanoke College jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead and cruised to an 80-75 win over Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's basketball game on Wednesday in Salem, Va.

Roanoke (10-8, 4-7 ODAC) never trailed in the game, had a 40-27 lead at halftime, and led by as many as 17 points. EMU (10-7, 6-5 ODAC) trailed by 11 with 1:26 remaining and put together a 9-3 run to pull within five points as time expired.

Junior guard Jared Butler led the Maroons with 19 points, five assists, and three steals. Senior center Kevinn Hunter had 13 points and five boards while sophomore forward Tee Jackson added 12 points and five boards.

Roanoke shot 50.8% from the floor and connected on 9-of-20 attempts from the three-point arch. The Maroons struggled at the free throw line, making just 11-of-29 attempts.

EMU sophomore forward Jason Sager registered his 11th double-double of the season and his seventh game with at least 20 points as he finished with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and three assists. Freshman guard Korey Whiting had 19 points and four rebounds while freshman forward Brad Parkes added 17 points and six boards.

The Royals followed 30% shooting in the first half with a 53.8% performance in the second period. They went 6-for-15 at the three-point arch and 23-for-35 at the charity stripe.

EMU will return home on Saturday to host Lynchburg College in an ODAC game at 7 p.m.
