EMU Loses at Roanoke in Women's Basketball 49-33

Roanoke College held Eastern Mennonite University to its lowest scoring output of the season in a 49-33 Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball victory on Tuesday in Salem, Va.

With the victory, Roanoke improved to 12-5 overall and pulled to within a half game of EMU for second place in the conference standings. The Lady Royals drop to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the ODAC.

Leading 12-10 with 10:18 remaining in the first half, the Maroons put together a 10-2 run to take a 10-point advantage. The Lady Royals pulled within 24-19 at the half, but never got closer than five points for the remainder of the game as Roanoke gradually pulled away for the 16-point victory.

Senior forward Chandra Forrester led Roanoke with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Senior center Jennie Schafer added 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocks. The Maroons shot 41.3% from the floor, hit 3-of-10 three-pointers, and converted 8-of-10 free throw opportunities. They held a 43-23 edge in rebounds but committed 25 turnovers.

Junior forward Stephanie Mathews led EMU with 13 points and five rebounds. Junior forward Amanda Renalds added nine points and four boards. The Lady Royals shot 22.9% from the field and made 1-of-14 three-pointers for 7.1% long-distance shooting. In addition to the 33 points scored, the 23 rebounds was also a season low for EMU.

The Lady Royals will try to rebound on Saturday when they host the Wildcats of Randolph-Macon Woman's College at 2 p.m.
