Lady Royals Fall to Quakers in Overtime 72-63

Eastern Mennonite University made a late run to send the game into overtime, but Guilford College controlled the overtime period to pick up the 72-63 victory in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va.
The win was the first conference victory of the season for the Quakers and also snapped a nine-game losing streak. Guilford improved to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in the ODAC. EMU suffered its second ODAC loss, falling to 7-2 in the conference and 11-3 overall.
Guilford held a 52-43 lead with six minutes remaining before EMU made a final push. The Lady Royals put together a 12-1 run, capped by a Stephanie Mathews three-pointer with 2:10 remaining for a 55-53 lead. Holding a 57-56 lead with 14 seconds left, senior Regina Sours hit one of two free throws for a two-point EMU advantage. However, Guilford's Jennifer King hit a three-pointer, her fourth of the game, with five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. In the extra period, Guilford took control from the start and coasted to the 72-63 victory.
Junior forward Amanda Renalds had a double-double for EMU with 16 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks. Mathews, a junior forward had 14 points, eight rebounds, and five steals. Sours had 11 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Senior forward Courtney Hill had 22 points and seven rebounds to lead all players in scoring. King, a junior guard, had 17 points and five assists for Guilford while sophomore Dionne Graham added 10 points.
EMU will host Emory & Henry in another ODAC game on Sunday at 2 p.m.
