#22 Randolph-Macon Wins Battle of Unbeatens

Reigning ODAC Player of the Year junior guard Megan Silva scored 20 points in leading Randolph-Macon College to a 77-56 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's basketball game on Thursday in Harrisonburg, Va.
Randolph-Macon and EMU entered the contest with identical 6-0 records. The Yellow Jackets, ranked 22nd nationally by D3hoops.com, improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC. EMU fell to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the ODAC.
Randolph-Macon started the game on fire, jumping to a 20-9 lead by the 11:37 mark of the first half. The Lady Royals responded with a 12-0 run over the next five minutes to go up by one. The teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the half with R-MC holding a 32-28 halftime lead.
The Yellow Jackets held a 42-40 lead with 12:52 remaining in the game when they took charge. Sophomore guard Salem Shaffer and freshman guard Nicole Childress converted back-to-back three-pointers to ignite a 16-1 Randolph-Macon run and give R-MC a 58-41 lead with 7:19 remaining. The Lady Royals got no closer than 15 for the remainder of the contest as the Yellow Jackets went on to win by 22.
In addition to her 20 points, Silva showed why she is one of the top all-around players in Division III with five rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Her 20 points came on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor and 6-of-6 shooting at the free throw line.
Childress joined Silva in double-figures with 11 points. Junior forward Michelle Orton scored 10 points and had five rebounds. Senior forward Emily Crider had nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Royals were led by junior forward Stephanie Mathews with 21 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Laura Ludholtz score3d 12 points and had five rebounds and four steals. Junior forward Amanda Renalds had 11 points and nine rebounds.
R-MC shot 45.8% for the game, including 57.7% in the second period. The Yellow Jackets converted 16-of-18 free throw attempts and held a 40-38 edge in rebounding. EMU struggled on all aspects of shooting by going 32.8% from the floor, 3-of-11 from the three-point arch, and 13-of-21 from the charity stripe.
EMU will travel to Virginia Beach on Saturday for a 2 p.m. ODAC contest against Virginia Wesleyan.
