EMU Falls to Lynchburg 2-1 in ODAC Women's Soccer

Lauren Askey's goal with 19 minutes remaining gave Lynchburg College a 2-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite University in the quarterfinal round of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's soccer tournament on Saturday in Lynchburg, Va.
Lynchburg, seeded first in the tournament, improves to 18-1-1 for the 2004 season and will face #4 Guilford on Friday. EMU ends its season at 6-11-1 overall.
Jessica Cullen started the scoring for Lynchburg at the 38:45 mark with an unassisted goal. EMU responded to tie the score less than two minutes into the second half with a goal by freshman Sarah Hurst, assisted by sophomore Vanessa Rice. It was the first goal scored all season by an ODAC team against Lynchburg. The teams would battle for 25 more minutes before Askey found the net on an 18-yard shot from Christina DiLiddo at the 71:01 mark.
Sophomore Joy Shaiebly stopped seven shots in goal for EMU while Erin Johnson had two saves at keeper for Lynchburg. LC led the game in shots 22-4 and corners 3-2. The Hornets also had 15 fouls to just 10 for EMU.
