Randolph-Macon Tops EMU Women's Soccer 2-1

Randolph-Macon College converted a second-half penalty kick to secure a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over Eastern Mennonite University on Thursday in Ashland, Va.
Randolph-Macon (12-4, 6-4) jumped on the board first with the third goal of the season for sophomore Ashley Jefferson. The goal was assisted by junior Kara Shapiro and sophomore Beth Blendell.
Eastern Mennonite (5-9-1, 3-5-1) tied the score with three minutes remaining in the first half on a goal by freshman Zana Patterson with an assist from freshman Destiny Peshina. It was Patterson's second goal of the season
The game remained tied until the 72:36 mark when junior Rachel McLoughlin recorded the game-winner for the Yellow Jackets on her 14th goal of the season on a penalty kick.
The Royals managed just 10 shots in the game compared to 23 for the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon led in corners 8-1. In goal for Eastern Mennonite, sophomore goalkeeper Joy Shaiebly stopped seven shots. Randolph-Macon keeper junior Liz Lombardo made five saves.
EMU will travel to Emory, Va. on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. meeting with Emory and Henry College.
