HARRISONBURG, Va. – After two straight losses the EMU Lady Royals returned home to face Randolph Macon and shut down the second ranked scoring team in the ODAC by a final of 2-1.
EMU was lead by senior striker Ellie Lind (Durban, South Africa/Three Rivers) who gave the Lady Royals an early lead off a penalty kick. The goal would give Lind her fifth of the year and the 56th of her career.
With five minutes left in the first period the Yellow Jackets of Randolph Macon got on the board when Katie Wohlford snuck through the Royals defense for her third of the season.
The Lady Royals responded early in the second period with what would end up being the game deciding goal. Freshman Christy Hurst (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata H.S) scored off of a direct kick from senior Heather Bauman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to put the Royals in the lead 2-1.
The Lady Royal defense then took charge against the high scoring Yellow Jackets. Goalie Joy Shaiebly (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster) made a crucial save, stopping a low liner by Rachel McLoughlin with nine minutes remaining to seal the victory for EMU.
The win gives the Lady Royals an even record at 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the ODAC. Randolph Macon falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC.
