HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University field hockey team, ranked 9th in the latest NFHCA national poll, rolled past Roanoke College 4-0 snapping a two-game losing streak. The Royals outshot the Maroons 38-11 to improve to 13-2 on the season.
EMU (13-2, 7-0) struggled to gain possession early in the game, but late in the first half the Royals would strike with their first goal by DIII goal scoring leader Kristin Moyer (Souderton, Pa./Christopher Dock). Moyer would score in the 27th minute off an assist Jonalyn Denlinger (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite). Just under seven minutes later, Denlinger would hook up with Kristie Souder (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock) for the second goal of the game.
The Royals would take a 2-0 halftime lead.
The second half was all EMU, but the Maroons (11-5, 4-3) were stingy taking ten shots. EMU goalie Emily Chamelin (Westminster, Md./Westminster) would come up with eight saves to stop the Maroon attack.
Denlinger would add a goal in the 38th minute taking a shot from just inside the circle to give EMU a 3-0 advantage.
In the 58th minute, EMU would get another insurance goal from Molly Harrington (Frederick, Md./Frederick). The goal gave Harrington ten for the season a career high. Beth Lichty, Roanoke's goalie, made 16 saves on the night.
EMU will travel to Virginia Wesleyan to take on the Marlins who are ranked 17th this week in Division III.
