EMU drops ODAC contest to Randolph-Macon 73-39
HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Eastern Mennonite University men's basketball dropped their second straight contest at the University Commons against fourth ranked Randolph-Macon in an ODAC contest. The Yellow Jackets breezed to a 73-39 victory as they stayed undefeated.
Randolph-Macon (6-0, 2-0 ODAC) ranked fourth by D3hoops.com could not shake the Royals early in the game. With the scored tied at 11-11, the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 24-13 led Jared Mills (Reading, Pa./Reading Central Cath.) who scored seven of his game-high 20 points during that stretch. With 3:04 remaining before the break, Randolph-Macon extended their lead to 36-19 on a jumper by Mills. The Yellow Jackets led 40-19 at halftime.
EMU's (2-7, 0-2 ODAC) woes continued in the second half as Randolph-Macon jumped out to a 30-point lead with 15:00 left in the game. The rim remained unkind to the Royals as they shot 28.6% from the floor on just 8-of-28 shooting. The Yellow Jackets, however, did not struggle as they shot 50% from the floor.
Mills also ended the game with 11 rebounds. Buck Poropatich (Boca Raton, Fla./Old Mill) chipped in nine points. Ryan Stein (Lawrenceville, N.J./Lawrence) added eights points.
E.J. Arrington (Staunton, Va./Stuarts Draft) led EMU with eight points. He also grabbed five rebounds. Mike Culen (Winchester, Va./James Wood) and Michael Swartley (Harrisonburg, Va./Broadway) each scored seven points. Bryan Williams (Stafford, Va./Evangel Christian) came of the bench to score six points and grab a team-high seven rebounds.
EMU finishes the year and will resume play January 8 at home against backyard rival Bridgewater College. Game time is slated for 8:00 p.m.
