The Lady Royals take Lynchburg College, the 11th ranked team in the nation, into double overtime for

Harrisonburg, VA – The Lady Royals (11-3-3, 6-2-2 ODAC) were looking to win their third straight game today as they played host to Lynchburg College (12-3-3, 7-1-2 ODAC), the 11th ranked team in the nation. On a cold and cloudy day at Bomberger Field, the first period was a back and forth affair with both sides narrowly missing on great scoring opportunities. Lynchburg's best shot came when Junior Goalkeeper Rochelle Yoder (Normal, IL/Normal Community West), made a diving block on the left side of the goal. The ball bounced in front of the EMU goal and was controlled by a Lynchburg forward who launched a shot at the empty net but Freshman Sarah Buller (Goshen, IN/Goshen) flew in from the left side of the goal box blocking the shot and preventing a score.

Midway through the second period with the score still tied 0-0 the Lady Royals found their second wind and attacked the Lynchburg goal in earnest. Several times in the period EMU missed just wide with great shots on an open goal. The Lady Royals best scoring opportunities came late in the game. With seven minutes to go in regulation, Junior forward Ellie Lind (Durban, South Africa/Three Rivers) beat the defense to take a shot in front of the Lynchburg goal but the ball missed just inches wide of the right goalpost. With 2:30 to play in the first overtime Sophomore Audra Baker (Lebanon, OR/Western Mennonite) headed the ball across the penalty box to set up Freshman Tara Plank (Goshen, IN/Bethany Christian) for an open shot on goal, but Plank's quick shot missed just high.

The Lady Royals outplayed the 11th ranked team in the nation for most of the second period, and both overtimes, but couldn't put the game away. EMU will look for their third win in four games when they take on Guilford College at home on Monday at 3:00pm
