EMU Drops Pair At Bearcat Challenge

The Eastern Mennonite women's volleyball team opened up their 2012 season Friday, playing a pair of matches at the Bearcat Challenge hosted by St. Vincent in Latrobe, PA.  The Lady Royals won their first game of the season, but still came out on the short end in both matches.

Carlow 3, EMU 1
The Lady Royals came out strong in their first match, winning game one, 26-24.  But Carlow regrouped and rattled off three straight decisions, 25-19, 26-24 and 25-21.

Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) led at the net with 15 kills, while Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian Academy) handled setting duties with 31 assists.  Freshman Katie Miller (San Antonio, TX/Brandeis) dominated the back row with 18 digs.

St. Vincent 3, EMU 0
The women then took on the host Bearcats, with St. Vincent taking a sweep.  Game scores were 25-17, 26-24 and 25-16.

Ritchie again had a team high 11 kills with Lehman handing out 20 assists.  Miller upped her average by digging up another 18 opponent spike attempts.

The Lady Royals return to the court Saturday, taking on Muskingum at 9:00am and Allegheny at 1:00pm.
