The Eastern Mennonite women's volleyball team lost a 3-0 non-conference decision on the road Thursday night, playing at Southern Virginia.  The Lady Royals return to ODAC play next Wednesday night at rival Bridgewater.

EMU gave up the first two points to the Knights on serve receiving errors.  After regrouping for a 6-3 lead, the women allowed seven straight to lose the momentum and eventually the set, 25-16.

The teams were close early in game two before Southern Virginia hit a streak of short runs to roll to a 25-11 win.

Although the women never led in game three, they showed their best effort and kept within a handful of points before falling 25-21.

Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) led EMU with seven kills.  Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) had six kills and seven digs.

Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, KS/Goessel) lofted 13 set assists while Kyla Moorefield (Danville, VA/Tunstall) added five kills and three solo blocks.  Freshman Tommi Michael (Front Royal, VA/Skyline) had a pair of kills and five digs in two games of action.

The loss drops the women to 6-18.  After the match at Bridgewater next week, the Lady Royals wrap up their season with a tri-match at home on Oct. 29, hosting Southern Virginia and Marymount.
