After besting last year's win total Thursday at Ferrum, the Lady Royals remained out of the conference. Eastern Mennonite tangled up with Marymount and Saint Vincent Saturday at a tri-match in Arlington, VA, and came home with a pair of losses.
Marymount 3, Eastern Mennonite 0
The women first took on the host Saints, and dropped a three-set match. Marymount controlled game one, 25-13, and won the final two as well, although the scores were closer at 25-22 and 25-20.
Freshman Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) led the way with 11 kills. She also had a solo block and a block assist, and was one of three Lady Royals with seven digs. Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) added seven kills.
Sophomore Lynae Fry (Archbold, OH/Pettisville) had a match high four service aces along with two block assists. Setter Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) had 22 assists and seven digs. Brittany Childress (Gloucester, VA/Christchurch) also had seven digs.
Saint Vincent 3, Eastern Mennonite 0
EMU then stepped right back onto the court to take on the talented Bearcats. Saint Vincent took three wins at 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18.
The women struggled to get their attack going, but were led by a match high 10 kills from Bowman. Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, KS/Goessel) was the only other Lady Royal with a positive attack percentage. She finished with three kills, a service ace and two block assists.
Kayla Smeltzer (Richmond, VA/Maggie L. Wagner) added a pair of block assists and Lehman had 19 assists and a service ace. Childress had seven digs and an ace.
Eastern Mennonite slips to 5-13 with the non-conference losses. They return to the ODAC for three road matches next week, starting with Randolph-Macon on Wednesday.
