Commanding Generals Take Sweep From Lady Royals

The Eastern Mennonite women's volleyball team ran into a buzz saw Tuesday night, playing at ODAC powerhouse Washington & Lee.  The Generals, who have played in 15 of the last 16 ODAC Championship matches, made quick work of EMU in a 3-0 sweep.

W&L had a strong start and finish to a 25-10 win in game one.  The Lady Royals regrouped in game two and had the score tied at 10-10 after a Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, KS/Goessel) service ace.  But the Generals took command with an 11-2 finish in a 25-14 decision.

Game three belonged to the home team, 25-11, to close the sweep of EMU.

Freshman Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) led the Lady Royals with eight kills in just 17 attempts.  She added six digs, as did Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) and Goertzen.  Goertzen also had 10 assists.

Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) had six kills.

The loss drops the women to 4-11 overall and 0-5 in the conference.  Thursday EMU steps back out of ODAC play with a date at Ferrum.
