Lady Royals Fall To Maroons In Salem

Despite leading all players with 11 kills, Tabitha Bowman and the Lady Royals lost in three.

With a chance to equal last season's win total and defeat Interim Coach Lauren Reznik's alma mater, the women's volleyball team came up just short Tuesday night in a 3-0 loss at Roanoke.

The Lady Royals quickly discovered Roanoke's presence at the net in game one and lost 25-16.

Eastern Mennonite's attack regrouped by game two and stepped up their play, but so did the Maroons.  Both teams hit .280 or better as the home team took a 25-20 decision.

Roanoke was on a roll in the third and grabbed a 25-19 clincher.

Senior Tabitha Bowman (Waynesboro, VA/Stuarts Draft) led the way for EMU with a match high 11 kills.  Kyla Moorefield (Danville, VA/Tunstall) added five kills and a pair of solo blocks.

Libero Brittany Childress (Gloucester, VA/Christchurch) topped all players with 12 digs.  Jessica Goertzen (Goessel, KS/Goessel) had 16 set assists while Sara Ritchie (Harrisonburg, VA/Turner Ashby) and Mattie Lehman (New Paris, IN/Bethany Christian) each had a pair of service aces.

The loss drops EMU to 3-7 overall and 0-1 in the ODAC after their conference opener.  The Lady Royals play their next four matches at home, starting this weekend with Randolph on Friday and Lynchburg on Saturday.
