Tracksters Give Good Showing At Vince Brown

The Eastern Mennonite University indoor track teams were in Newport News on Saturday, participating in the Vince Brown Invitational hosted by Christopher Newport.  The Royals had some solid showings in a meet also full of D-I and D-II athletes.

Sophia Holmes (Berryville, VA/Clarke County) was one of the top D-III finishers in the 800m, taking 26th with a time of 2:31.40.  Her time was also the third best in 800m all-time at EMU.

In the 5000m run, Alli Eanes (Harrisonburg, VA/Westmont Hilltop) was 14th in 19:59.63.  Lanae Kreider (Harrisonburg, VA/Broadway) was a couple of steps back in 16th at 20:06.22.  They both put themselves on the EMU leaderboard for the event, Eanes at No. 4 and Kreider at No. 5.

Naomi Good (Columbia, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) topped EMU's runners in the 200m, finishing in 30.11.  Good lowered her time in the 400m, crossing in 1:07.53.  Jenessa Derstine (Harleysville, PA/Christopher Dock) wasn't far behind in 1:08.09.

Alyssa Bane (Strasburg, VA/Strasburg) was just a fraction off her season best in the shot put, landing at 9.15m (30-0.25ft).  Jenni Beck (Archbold, OH/Archbold) had a best throw of 8.42m (27-7.50ft).

In the men's one mile run, Andrew Yoder (Harrisonburg, VA/Eastern Mennonite) finished 24th overall and eighth among D-III runners.  His time of 4:36.75 put him in the middle of a pack of seven runners who all crossed within the span of one second.  David Hooley (Bluffton, OH/Bluffton) came in at 4:51.68.

Hilton Morgan (Boyce, VA/Clarke County) advanced to the finals of the shot put and had the second-best throw among D-III athletes.  He took sixth overall with a distance of 13.99m (45-10.75ft).

The Royals have next weekend off before traveling to the VMI Winter Relays in Lexington.
