Eastern Mennonite's Olyvia Longacre (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy) ended the fall golf season in strong fashion, tying her career low round on the final day of the Generals Invitational.
Playing on the par-72, 5800-yard course at Lexington Golf and Country Club, Longacre shot an 85 during Monday's first round. Today, she tied her best round from last season, firing an 83. Longacre put together a two-day total of 168 (+24) to finish 25th out of the large 71-player field.
Longacre not only tied her best 18-hole round on Tuesday, but her two-day total was also tied for her best collegiate effort. Through the three tournaments played this fall, the sophomore is averaging a score of 86.0 per round, compared to 91.5 from her freshman season.
Defending national champion Christina Herbert of Bridgewater shot a 69 on the second day to win the individual title by 10 strokes. She carded a 142 (-2). Methodist University won a tightly contested team title at 625 (+49), three strokes ahead of two other teams.
This tournament wraps up the fall season for EMU women's golf. The spring season is expected to start up in late March 2018, and will be finalized over this winter. Play will culminate at the three-day ODAC Championships, which are April 22-24 at Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C.
