It was a successful start to the 2017-18 campaign for Eastern Mennonite's Olyvia Longacre (Telford, Pa./Dock Mennonite Academy). The golfer shot two strokes below last year's average at the Shenandoah Invitational this weekend, finishing in the top half of the field.
Playing at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal, Va., Longacre carded an 88 on day one, sitting tied for 16th. She added a few strokes on Sunday, adding a 91 to come in at 179 (+35) for the tournament. The sophomore tied for 20th out of 43 women.
She averaged a round score of 91.5 as a freshman.
Bridgewater's Christina Herbert, last year's national champion, was the runaway individual winner at the tourney, finishing at 144 (E) to win by 12 strokes. She fueled the Eagles to the team win at 663 (+87).
Longacre is back on the course this coming weekend, playing Saturday and Sunday at the Bridgewater Invitational at Lakeview Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
