Royals Open ODAC Tournament With 63-55 Win Over Roanoke
The Eastern Mennonite women took over midway through the first half of their ODAC Quarterfinal game Thursday and came away with a 63-55 win over seven-seeded Roanoke. The Royals advance to the Semifinals and will play Saturday against either #3 Guilford or #6 Bridgewater at 3:00pm.

Ygarza Earns Second Player Of The Week Honors
Eastern Mennonite sophomore Bianca Ygarza had an outstanding close to the regular season, helping the Royals to three straight road wins which locked up the second seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament. As a result, she was named the ODAC Player-Of-The-Week.

Royals Control Guilford To Lock Up ODAC's Second Seed
Heading into Saturday’s season finale at Guilford College, the Eastern Mennonite women knew they controlled their own destiny for the second seed in next week’s ODAC Tournament. The Royals responded in a big way, controlling the second half in a 68-56 win.

Women Head Into Finale With 88-59 Thumping Of Wasps
It took a few minutes to get going, but by the end it was all EMU Friday night, as the women’s basketball team rolled over Emory & Henry 88-59 on the road. The Royals broke off a 26-26 tie in the first half and closed on a 62-33 surge over the final 27 minutes.

Women Back On The Winning Track
The Royals recovered well from their overtime loss to Virginia Wesleyan, dominating Randolph College Tuesday evening, 64-35. The women controlled the boards and made a living at the free throw line as they led by as many as 31 points to improve to 19-3 overall and 15-3 in the ODAC.

Marlins Slip By Royals In Overtime Battle Of ODAC Leaders
In a clash between two teams tied for first in the ODAC, you would expect a lot: big runs, dramatic comebacks, clutch shots. Saturday’s game between Eastern Mennonite and Virginia Wesleyan had all of those, although the final result left the home fans on the short end, as VWC took an 82-76 win from the Royals in Harrisonburg.

Sophomore Stephanie Rheinheimer (Manheim, PA/Lancaster Mennonite) helped the EMU women go 3-0 last week and take over first place in the ODAC standings. Today the conference recognized her as the ODAC Player of the Week.

The Eastern Mennonite women entered Saturday’s game with Roanoke with the 11th-best offense in the nation. The Maroons held EMU 30 points below their season average, but the Royals still found a way to get the win, getting a late bucket to steal a 45-44 decision.

The Eastern Mennonite women took over early Thursday night and ran away with a 92-46 non-conference win from visiting Mary Baldwin College. The victory extended the Royals’ home winning streak to 21 straight games.

The sign of a good team is when it can overcome rough spells and still earn a win. Despite trailing by 11 with five minutes to play, Eastern Mennonite’s women stepped up their defense, which in turn fueled their offense to a 23-3 game-ending run and a 71-62 win over Randolph-Macon.

Shooting 49% from the floor is nice, but if you can’t stop the other team it won’t get you the win. The Eastern Mennonite women found that out Saturday afternoon at Lynchburg, where the Royals had a nine-game winning streak snapped in a 75-72 loss to the Hornets.

From the opening minutes of the game, you wouldn’t have known that visiting Randolph was still looking for its first conference win. But after falling behind 10-2 to the WildCats, the Eastern Mennonite women quickly regrouped and controlled the rest of the game in a 79-48 victory in Harrisonburg Friday night.

When the two teams met in November, Eastern Mennonite needed a big second half to grab a win at Bridgewater. Tuesday night in Harrisonburg, the Royals never trailed. But they did need to weather a tense final minutes before securing a 66-65 victory to extend their winning streak to eight games.
