Eastern Mennonite made quick work of Emory & Henry this morning in the loser's bracket of the ODAC Softball Tournament, clubbing a 10-0 win in five innings. The Lady Royals continue into the final four of the tourney, and will take on No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan today at 5:00pm in Salem, VA.

Maroons Send EMU To Loser's Bracket By 7-5 Score
Roanoke defeated EMU twice during the regular season, and despite a wild game, the Maroons made it one more as they handed the women a 7-5 loss Friday evening. The ODAC Tournament loss drops No. 6 Eastern Mennonite into the loser’s bracket, where they will play No. 8 Emory & Henry Saturday morning at 11:00am in Salem, VA.

Women Open ODAC Tournament With Win Over R-MC
Two days ago, the Lady Royals showed they could hit Randolph-Macon, gaining a sweep to end the regular season. Friday in the ODAC Tournament opener for both teams, EMU only scratched out five hits, but got great pitching and defense to earn a third straight win from the Yellow Jackets, this time by a final of 3-1.

EMU Sweeps Randolph-Macon, Earns Rematch In ODAC Tournament
The hitting was in fine form Tuesday night. Wednesday on Senior Day, the pitching followed suit in a sweep of Randolph-Macon. With the wins, Eastern Mennonite clinched the sixth seed in this weekend’s ODAC Tournament and earned a repeat date with the Yellow Jackets, who finished as the third seed. The teams will play Friday at 2:00pm in Salem. The double elimination tourney culminates in the ODAC Championship on Sunday.

The rescheduled softball games for Eastern Mennonite University not only have new dates, but now will also have new locations. Due to exam schedules at EMU, both makeup doubleheaders need to be played in the evening, thus forcing them to an off campus field which would have lights.

McCurdy Announces First EMU Softball Camp In August
Eastern Mennonite University softball coach J.D. McCurdy has announced he will hold a three-day camp in early August. The softball camp, held at EMU's Gehman Field, will run from Tuesday, Aug. 2, through Thursday, Aug. 4, giving girls ages 11-18 four hours of training each day from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Softball Women Land Three On VaSID All-State Teams
Three Eastern Mennonite softball players have been honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), being named to the 2011 College Division All-State Teams. Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham) and Jessica Sullivan (Midlothian, Va./Mancheter) were each named to the All-State First Team, while freshman Molly Smith (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) was named to the Second Team.

Smith And Hensley Take NFCA All-Region Honors
For years they have been dominant forces on the softball diamonds on the east side of Rockingham County. This year high school teammates Molly Smith (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) and Brooke Hensley (Elkton, Va./Spotswood) stepped onto Gehman Field at Eastern Mennonite University and left equally strong impressions after just one season as both were named to all-region teams.

Seven Named To All-ODAC Teams In Record-Setting Year
In a season in which 12 team or individual school records were tied or broken, it is only fitting for the Lady Royals to land four players on the All-ODAC First Team, the most ever for the program. Junior Lisa Lee (Buckingham, Va./Buckingham County) headlines the foursome, as she was also named Old Dominion Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year. EMU had three players named All-ODAC First Team in 1990, the first year of softball in the league, and have only had multiple players on the First Team three times in previous 21 years.

Last year, the top two seeds were the two teams to go home after day one of the ODAC Softball Tournament, thanks in part to Eastern Mennonite pulling a first-round upset. This year, the Lady Royals entered as the top seed and were themselves victims of a first-round upset as all four of the top seeds lost their first game. Facing elimination in a losers' bracket game at 4:00, the women jumped on Randolph-Macon and advanced with a tight 2-1 victory in Salem, Va.

Women Victims Of First Round Upset In ODAC Tourney
In a first-round matchup laden with storylines, top-seeded Eastern Mennonite played eighth-seeded Randolph Thursday noon at the ODAC Tournament in Salem, Va. The Lady Royals had won last year's tourney, only they did so from the No. 8 seed, which the WildCats held this year. EMU Coach J.D. McCurdy had also coached Randolph's skipper, Caroline Cubbage, in high school in 2003. On top of all that, the two teams also split when they met four days earlier in Harrisonburg.

Lady Royals Sweep EHC To Claim Tourney's Top Seed
With a pair of wins Monday, the Lady Royals would sew up the top seed for the ODAC Tournament. The women got their sweep, putting 10 runs on the board in each game of a doubleheader contest at Emory & Henry. The Eastern Mennonite softball team will be the No. 1 seed in this weekend's tourney and will play No. 8 Randolph Thursday at noon in Salem, Va. They will then play at either 4:00 or 6:00 that day.

Royals Take One Of Two From Future ODAC Mate
Beginning in the fall of 2012, Shenandoah University will be a fellow conference member of EMU's when the Hornets join the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. For now, when Eastern Mennonite takes on SU it is as a non-conference opponent, as it was Wednesday in Winchester. The Lady Royals grabbed a win in game one, before the Hornets got their offense in gear for a 13-5 win in the second.

The Eastern Mennonite softball team opened its 2011 season over the weekend, playing at the Methodist Early Bird Tournament in Fayetteville, North Carolina. The women took on a pair of nationally-ranked teams the first day and ended up with a 1-3 record at the two-day event.
