EMU setter Christian Taylor (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) has been named the Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week.
Taylor helped the Royals roll off six wins last week including three conference victories. At 4-1, Eastern Mennonite has the most CVC wins of any of the league's teams.
On the week Taylor averaged 10.0 assists per set, totaling 170 in his six matches. He topped 30 assists in three different matches including a high of 35 in a win over Arcadia. More importantly, Taylor improved everyone around him, leading the team to a .271 hitting percentage, nearly 60 points higher than their season average. The men set their two highest marks of the season, .372 against Neumann and .352 against Mount Ida. Taylor also added 13 digs and nine total blocks.
On the year, he is second in the CVC with 428 assists and 9.30 per set, and is also ninth with 25 blocks, tops among setters.
Taylor is the second Royal to win CVC Player of the Week honors already this campaign, joining senior Dan Lutz (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) from the first week of the year.
At 11-3 overall, Eastern Mennonite is getting set for a huge weekend, with three nationally ranked opponents coming into Yoder Arena. The Royals play #8 Juniata and #4 UC Santa Cruz on Friday, followed by #5 Marymount Saturday morning.
