Boamah, Shafer And Luna Named All-ODAC

Boamah, Shafer And Luna Named All-ODAC

Three EMU men's soccer players have been voted onto All-ODAC teams, with both Emmanuel Boamah (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) and David Shafer (Maitland, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) earning All-ODAC First Team accolades. Senior Juan Luna (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) wrapped up his collegiate career with an All-ODAC Second Team award.

This is the first time since 2014 that the men's soccer program has had multiple All-ODAC First Team honorees, when Joao "Chris" Downs and Mark Mast were each on the top team.

Boamah earns his second straight spot on the All-ODAC First Team, and continues his streak of an ODAC honor in each of his three seasons. He was on the Second Team as a freshman. Boamah locked down the middle of EMU's back line as the defender showed a rare blend of athleticism and ball control. He was also a dangerous threat on set pieces and scored a pair of goals this year, both of the final two scores in the Royals' incredible 4-3 come-from-behind win at Bridgewater. Boamah's game-winner against BC came in the 109th minute to keep the men in line for a spot in the ODAC Tournament.

Shafer made a quick splash in his first season in Harrisonburg, as the D-I transfer led the ODAC with eight assists and 22 points. The midfielder also scored seven goals to tie for fourth in the league, pacing the ODAC's second-highest scoring offense at 2.29 goals per game. Shafer was named the ODAC Player of the Week in early October after accounting for two goals and three assists in a pair of six-goal outbursts for the Royals. He netted a pair of game-winning goals this season while assisting on three others.

Luna also earned his third straight All-ODAC award, landing on the Second Team for the second time after earning First Team in 2015. His six goals were tied for tenth in the ODAC, adding two assists to also tie for tenth with 14 points. Luna had a knack for jump-starting Eastern Mennonite's offense in tight games, and scored game-winners against Covenant and Emory & Henry. He was a consistent threat for the Royals and scored at least five goals in each of his four seasons. Luna ends his career tied for ninth in program history with both his 24 goals and 15 assists, and came in tenth with 63 career points.

Eastern Mennonite finished 10-7 this year, hitting double digit victories for the first time since 2011. The Royals lost to eventual champion Lynchburg in the quarterfinals of the ODAC Tournament.
