Just 18 hours removed from a tough loss to Maryville, EMU's soccer men leaned on their early-season stamina to score a pair of second-half goals to roll over Covenant College, 2-0.

The Royals went 20 men deep into their roster and dominated the second 45 minutes, out-shooting Covenant 7-2 in the frame. They split their games at the Maryville College Soccer Invitational.

After managing just three attempts in the first, Eastern Mennonite asserted their power early in the second, at one point earning six corner kicks in a five-minute span. Juan Luna (Mount Jackson, Va./Stonewall Jackson) finally got the men on the board, hitting the net in the 77th minute with an assist from Daniel Obour (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon).

Continuing to push, the Royals put the game out of reach with just under four minutes remaining, with Caleb Lasrado (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) assisting Jesus Trejo (Winchester, Va./John Handley) on his first goal of the year for the final margin.

EMU ended with a 10-7 advantage in shots, including 8-2 on goal. Cody Martin (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle) made two saves to earn the shutout.

Obour had three shots on goal, while Luna and David Shafer (Maitland, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic) each fired two.

The Royals play Wednesday at Wesley College in Dover, Del., before their home opener next Saturday against William Peace.
