The Eastern Mennonite field hockey had its home opener Thursday night and treated fans to an exciting contest that took extra minutes of 7-on-7 to decide the outcome. Unfortunately for the home fans, visiting Hendrix controlled OT and scored in the 7th minute of extra time for a 2-1 win over the Lady Royals.

Last year the Eastern Mennonite field hockey did not advance to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title game for the first time in five years. The ODAC coaches think the same might be in store in 2011, as the Lady Royals were selected to finish fourth in the ODAC Preseason Poll.

EMU Alum Starts Massanutten Field Hockey League
Eastern Mennonite field hockey alumnus Janelle Hurst-Mazariegos ('92) is starting up a league to help introduce local people to the sport. The Massanutten Field Hockey League will start with practices the week of August 29 and males and females in grades 6-9 are invited to join the league. Games will start that weekend.

Field Hockey Lists Six Impact Recruits For 2011
Coach Brenda Bechler brings in six new recruits for the upcoming field hockey season at Eastern Mennonite. The Lady Royals, who have won 11 Old Dominion Athletic Conference titles, are looking to return to the ODAC title game after having a string of four straight appearances broken last fall.

No Easy Breaks On Schedule For Field Hockey
A tough slate. That's the simple phrase to describe the 2011 field hockey schedule for the Lady Royals. Although Eastern Mennonite has a six-game homestand coming in September, the women have a number of tough matches written into their 19-game season, including a home date with D-I Liberty University.
